T.I.'s "No Matter What"

Alright, to be real with you, I wasn't really that hyped about T.I.'s September due Paper Trail album... but then I heard "No Matter What."

I always liked T.I., he's pretty consistent with his ability to pick quality instrumentals (one of the most important yet overlooked skills) and he has an incredibly distinguished voice. One that ranges from smooth and calm, as in the "Why You Wanna" chorus, to authoritative and aggressive, as in "Hurt" and "Top Back Remix."

What a lot of people don't know is that throughout T.I.'s 7 year career he's undergone a series of lyrical transformations. Transformations that are "mandatory... to stay in a position of power," he says. "You've got to keep reinventing yourself." So no matter how much we liked his flow on King or T.I. vs T.I.P, we can only a accept the inevitability of yet another redefinition?

His new song, "No Matter What," illustrates somewhat of a departure from his more recent flow and tone, and more of a throwback to his first album. Possibly due to the fact that Paper Trail is reportedly his first album since I'm Serious, in which he will be writing down his lyrics (thus spawning the title).

The past year for him has been a one of trials and tribulations. He sure has a lot to talk about, everything from his highly publicized troubles with the law to a what should be a quick and painless eradication of Shawty Lo (who recently came at T.I.... and also got killed on his own song, "Dey Know," by Luda and the man who should have gotten the track, Jeezy).

Additionally, the song is produced by long time T.I. collaborator, DJ Toomp (Vibe inaccurately credited Timbaland protege Danja).

Peace and much Love. I'm out.
